REVIEW: Candied Maple Bacon Murder

Candied Maple Bacon Murder
Author: Susan Gillard

Heather Shepherd is hard at work at Donut Delights after creating a new maple bacon flavored pastry when she receives a panicked phone call from a local exotic dancer. Honey says that she's being followed by a man but is trying to get to Heather to tell her something. Heather calls her husband, a detective with the local police, who goes out to look for Honey.....unfortunately, the woman is shot and killed before he can find her. In fact, Honey is murdered on Heather's front door step. Who had a reason to murder the dancer? And why had she been looking for Heather?

Maple Candied Bacon Murder is another light, entertaining read in this cozy mystery series. However, there are many editing errors in this book....incorrect words, grammar mistakes, confusing sentences, typos in character names, etc. Hiring a professional editor is a must for self-published books! I enjoy the characters in this series. I like the doughnut shop theme. And the mysteries are fast-paced and interesting. But, the multiple errors in each book in this series really make it less enjoyable for me. And sometimes the writing is just confusing. One sentence had me totally confused. I read it out loud to my husband to see if he understood what it meant -- we never did figure it out.

There are more positive things about this series than negative. The stories are quick, easy, light reads, making them perfect grab-and-go books for trips, waiting for appointments, etc. The doughnut shop theme is cute and sweet. I like the photos of the doughnuts on the front covers. The stories are basically entertaining.....I just wish the editing was better!

Candied Maple Bacon Murder is the 13th book in the Donut Hole series. There are 60 novella-length books in total, with a spin-off series, Oceanside Cozy Mysteries.
